Geographies of Blackness

Teju is currently a 4Cities Erasmus Mundus Fellow writing her Masters thesis, tentatively entitled: Micro-Geographies of Blackness Through the Eyes of Black Activists and Artists in Vienna, Brussels, and Oakland: Mapping a Black Consciousness in Urban Space.”

Teju’s GOB research aims to explore, document, and further understand the urban subaltern experience for Black artists and activists in European cities as compared to American cities. To understand how visible difference affects mircogeographies and socio-cultural experiences of Black artists and activists, and by extension, Black people in Euro-North American urban contexts. Additionally, bringing more awareness to city culture initiated for and by Black people in Europe, further expanding the terrains and geographies of Blackness.
